Went whitewater rafting last week…
Clear tears begin to flow
dampening my cheek skin as the river courses through me
deep inside
my darkness
My gaze rests upon the sun-dappled water

and I no longer exist by myself
alone
I wade into her shadowy splashes
and the liquid mercury-colored ripples part in welcome
to me and
my raft
Sun streaks through the mirrors
of her shallow dances with rocks and muddy bottom
illuminating the way I am to go
within
Two unconscious hours meander along Her banks with me
as I paddle
smiling, sun-blessed and damp
both without and
within
Tonight I remember Her silently
as I warm by the campfire
flames
